Sports Premium
Schools are awarded money specifically to be spent on increasing sporting provision for pupils. Here are some of the ways we have used this money in recent years:
- New sports equipment for the playground, including pedal bikes, playground equipment and a running track. All children do a daily dash around the track.
- Health and fitness week, including workshops with an Olympian and trying new sports such as ultimate frisbee and archery.
- Staff training to improve quality of sports and dance teaching, training in playtime activities with the children and training in sports for teachers.
Sporting Activities
At St John the Baptist, we understand that sport and physical exercise is essential to our physical, emotional health. We encourage regular physical activity throughout the day to help develop healthy routines that will last a lifetime.
Children enjoy two hours of PE each week including swimming, athletics and several types of ball games. Each July we have Fitness Week bringing in experts in different sports and activities for our children to try. We also run many sports clubs throughout the year.
As a school we participate in a wide variety of sports, from gymnastics, cricket, athletics, football (both girls and boys), netball, swimming, rugby, hockey, golf and racquet sports. Some of these are competitions and some are festivals where we give children a chance to try a new sport and challenge others. This allows us to offer all children the chance to represent their school at some point in their school career.
